The Equal Pay Act was passed on June 10, 1963 and became effective in June 11, 1964 and it became illegal to pay women lower rates for the same job strictly on the basis on their sexes. Women were awarded more than 26 million paid to over 71000 women folling two major cases.
Schultz v. Wheaton Glass Co. which ruled jobs could be equall but not indentical to fall under this protection of Equal Pay Act.
Corning Glass Works v. Brennan ruled women could not be paid a lower rate because traditionally received under going market rate because men won't work for the lower rate.http://www.infoplease.com/spot/equalpayact1.html
